MOTOROLA XOOM VS IPAD 2 Comparison Reviews. I prefer Xoom over iPad 2

Motorola XOOM Android Tablet (Wi-Fi)

    First of all let me say that I own Apple and Google Android /. I have an iPod Touch and have played with a member of the household IPAD itself. IPAD2 also played a little and I have a friend at the store on launch day. Currently I have the original Droid and looking to move to the new Android phones this summer. It hard not to compare Xoom to its competitor aka iPad 2. Therefore, this hotfix requires Xoom features (wireless version) and compared with IPAD 2.

Operating System 

    An iPad is more like a smartphone that Xoom is more like a laptop computer (Best Buy is actually in the notebook section, instead of the pills as Android Samsung Galaxy). Honeycomb is more like a tablet. There is only one line of applications and the waste of space as IOS. Plus, you have room for customization (widget, live wallpaper, theme etc).

    There are also little details that do appreciate the knowledge of technology (grid lines, advanced settings, Google Labs, etc.) Honeycomb is still a bit buggy, but not to the extent that it becomes annoying. I only have the force of closure of a number (application closed because of an error) from time to time (not all applications work with your Xoom .. yet).

IPAD 2

    Obviously IOS, an operating system and has been shown that almost four years is more stable than the honeycomb, a new operating system (optimized for the use of pills), which was a month ago with its SDK. Google knows honeycomb should be improved, so that honeycomb is incomplete and do not mind waiting for an even better experience.

    It 'also easy to transfer files between your computer and Xoom. Just plug in USB and it works like a hard drive, then drag the desired files. There are also applications such as file and ES Astro Explorer File Manager to manage the files / folders (like Windows Explorer). I think that requires IOS software, unless you just do music / movies through iTunes. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I hate all linked / synced through iTunes. The Xoom, more freedom and do not stick with a program like iTunes.

Winner: To each his own but I like Honeycomb better.

Design / Layout / Display 

    Xoom is heavier, but this is due to the robust quality that I love. It 'more often and has a large screen (better suited for movies IPAD 2). Despite Xoom has a higher screen resolution, IPAD 2 still has a brighter screen and bright eyes.

User Interface 

    Some people say honeycomb is too complicated to use. Well, maybe they were just using IPAD. For someone who has used both, I must say that it is fairly easy to use. IOS is more intuitive and infallible, but there are many details about the possibility of Xoom that many people enjoy.

Multitasking 

    One button and it takes you to 5 most recent apps for easy switching on Xoom. iPad 2 sort of have multitasking but not a true multitasking experience.

Browser 

    If you are using the Chrome browser before it's almost like Xoom. I prefer the tabbed browsing is no need to press the button to open multiple Safari windows in the IOS device. You can search directly type in the address bar like Google Chrome. You can synchronize the bookmarks in your Google account. And yes, I know there are applications of other browsers on the market. However, a browser application for the population, Xoom has a better experience.

IPAD 2

Applications 

    IPAD is far ahead in terms of applications and that original IPAD had at least 1 year of Head Start vs Xoom. Not to mention the comb is unfinished and the SDK was recently released. However, applications that are commercially available compressed Android (about 50 requests for the pill), most of them great job and a great look. Note that you can still use Android applications. Company telephone applications, but still maintain high resolution so that it looks bad on the screen whatsoever. Give it time.

Customization 

   This is my favorite part of Android. Which opened the themes of personalization, widgets, custom splash screen at baseline. IOS is not an escape from prison unless the device.

Notification 

    If you have an iPhone and iPad, you know how the notification can be very painful. Xoom has a better notification system that appears briefly in the lower right you get a new e-mail, application updates, etc. can be clicked to display all the notifications or delete them. Performance Hardware 

    A5 vs Tegra 2 is still being debated. Xoom seems to be as powerful as two IPAD except GPU (the difference can be seen with the games and the brightness of the screen). IPAD2 has 512 MB ​​of RAM vs. 1 GB of RAM on Xoom.

And video / audio 

    Better camera and video on Xoom thanks to its higher spec vs VGA front and lower MP back camera on iPad 2. Application of the picture becomes a little 'getting used to Xoom. President of Xoom is decent and could have been stronger. I would like the volume control is more visible on the side. It feels like the button can become stuck into the device.
    Also I use DVD Catalyst 4 to convert and transfer movie to Xoom. It can convert most file types as long as it's not DRM protected (like "Digital Copy"). The software is pretty neat, simple to use and the pictures look great. You have option to customize the pictures, add subtitles, and get rid of black bars.

Winner: Xoom OVERALL

Flash 

    Yes, Flash is still in beta, but works very well so far with a bit late, but barely noticeable. Very smooth most of the time. I tested it on sites that use Flash as Engadget (video), Honda (Auto animation), Vice Versa restaurant in New York (heavy flash site), Myspace and Bandcamp (music player with artist's page). IOS has no flash at all what we all know that as far as navigation.

Winner: Xoom by a mile (until HTML5 is fully functional)

Battery Life 

    Xoom gets about 8 - 9 hours for heavy multitasking usage. Will have to test standby time but I expect it to be less than iPad2. iPad 2 gets at least 10 hours of heavy usage.

Winner: iPad 2

GPS 

    I just remembered that all the GPS navigation and Google Maps, Wi-Fi Xoom. 2 While IPAD is available only if you have wifi + 3G version. And if you use Google Maps for Android applications that you first know more of the map of the IOS (step by step voice instructions step by step, diapers, etc.). 

    Because this is a wireless version, the settings of IE cache Google Maps, where you can prefetch for overview maps of the city or region, while the Wi-Fi (on? MB. Need to check coverage). You can then navigate to the desired destination, as well as the navigation voice.  

    You can not change the destination half way, because obviously no 3G connection. The other alternative is to connect the device 3G/4G smartphone.

Nitpick 

    SD card slot on Xoom is still not enabled at this moment. Also, I wish Xoom can be charged through micro USB but I believe it may be because micro USB doesn't supply enough current to charge a tablet.

    In the end, you may prefer one device over the other and it is to each his own. However, based on the overall factors I mentioned above, I prefer Xoom.
